Freelancing Update

I’ve been freelancing for a few weeks now and things are going very well.  I have a new project that involves making an affiliate program driven site that sells furniture.  I’m excited about it because it’s a little different that the typical credit card affiliate websites I make and maintain.

I finally decided to use Business Contact Manager in Outlook instead of using SalesForce. com.  The SalesForce policy of annoying the living hell out of trial members made this an easy decision.  I got bombarded with voice mail and email from some guy named Mike from SalesForce who wanted to talk … Continue Reading

We’re babysitting this little puppy today.  He looks much bigger than he really is in this photo.

Day Four of Full-Time Freelancing

Today I got my work area the way I want it and I finished work for two of my clients. I didn’t get enough work done for another of my clients and I haven’t had a chance to start on the proposal I need to get done for a potential client.

I’m looking at using Business Contact Manager in Outlook for CRM. I’m also tempted to use SalesForce.

I’m not going to continue to do daily updates about freelancing, but I will post when something relevant comes up.

Day Three of Full-Time Freelancing

I feel like I’m working harder now than I did before I got laid off.  Tomorrow I’ll have my work area exactly the way I want it and the thought of that makes me happy.

I have work for two clients that I HAVE to have done tomorrow, but it’s not going to be terrible.  I have a third client that I need to get some work done for and I need to start on a proposal for a potential client.

One day next week I’m going to vegetate.  I think I’ve earned it.

My new phone and headset are setup and work.  I … Continue Reading

Day Two of Full-Time Freelancing

After spending an hour on the phone today with a client on my cell phone and getting an arm cramp (and running up my minutes) I decided to get a desk phone, a wireless headset and Magic Jack.

Other than ordering things I did some research for a potential client and a little bit of work for an existing client.

I still need to build a website that promotes my niche service of building websites for credit card affiliate publishers.  First I should probably redesign my main site at BarryBoggs.com.

Day One of Full-Time Freelancing

Today I setup an accounting system and a time tracking system and I synced my email on my pc and my laptop with my google calendar.  I also did a little client work.

For my invoicing I’m using Freshbooks.  For my accounting I’m using a service that you can tie into Freshbooks called Outright.

For my todo list I signed-up for a service called Toodledo.  You can sync this to Outlook with Toodledo Outlook Sync.

For time tracking, I signed up with Toggl and I highly recommend it.

I’m getting the … Continue Reading

Got Laid-off Yesterday and am Now Freelance

So I got laid off.  I’m actually pretty happy about it.  Now I can get back to freelancing and I have a nice severance “cushion”.  I’m going to start a new category here called “Freelancing” and I’ll document my journey and pass on any useful things I learn.

Next week I get to file for unemployment benefits!

Back from Ireland

I’m back from Ireland and I can’t wait to go again. Pics coming soon.

Currently I’m sitting on the train heading to work where I should find
out this morning if I’m getting laid off or not.

Should be an interesting day.
